Man Arrested for Murdering His Girlfriend in Kaduna

The Kaduna State Police Command has apprehended a man who allegedly murdered his girlfriend. DSP Muhammad Jalige, the spokesperson of the command, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Friday, April 21, 2023. According to him, the suspect was saved from being lynched by a mob.

Jalige explained that the Command received a distress call on April 14 at about 21:30hrs, reporting a mob action at NEPA Roundabout in Kaduna metropolis where an unruly crowd was about to lynch a man. The operatives quickly responded to the scene and found the suspect lying unconscious and surrounded by a crowd.

The spokesperson disclosed that the man attacked his girlfriend, who was a student at Old Command Secondary and Nursery School, Sokoto Road, Kaduna, with a machete. He inflicted multiple injuries on her face, arms, and hands and completely severed her left hand during the attack. The suspect claimed that he had invested a lot of resources in the relationship and the victim was planning to leave him for another man.

The victim was immediately taken to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital for medical attention, but the doctor on duty confirmed that she was dead. The corpse has been deposited in the same hospital for an autopsy.

DSP Jalige noted that the investigation into the case was ongoing.
