The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a young man who fatally attacked his girlfriend after she revealed plans to end their relationship. The incident occurred on April 21, 2023, in Kaduna metropolis, where the suspect was almost lynched by a mob before the police intervened.

Disturbing reports of a mob action at NEPA Roundabout prompted the Command to dispatch operatives to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the suspect lying unconscious amidst a hostile crowd. The spokesperson for the Command, DSP Muhammad Jalige, confirmed that the suspect attacked his girlfriend, a student of Old Command Secondary and Nursery School in Sokoto Road, Kaduna, with a machete. The victim suffered severe injuries to her face, arms, and hands, and her left arm was severed in the attack.

According to DSP Jalige, the suspect acted out of jealousy and rage after learning of his girlfriend’s plans to leave him for another man. The victim was rushed to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital for medical attention but was later confirmed dead by a doctor on duty.

The police have arrested the suspect and taken him into custody. The victim’s body has been deposited at the same hospital for an autopsy.
